KARACHI: Police claimed to have apprehended a middle-aged man for allegedly killing his teenage daughter since both he and the victim opposed her marriage to a man of bad reputation.
Fifteen-year-old B* was stabbed to death inside her house in North Karachi, within the limits of Sir Syed police station on August 1. Later the victim’s brother Khawar registered an FIR No 183/16 at Sir Syed police station against the father, Akhtar Manzur.
Manzur had been on the run since the incident took place but he was arrested by Federal B Industrial Area police on Friday. The police were conducting routine patrol in Federal B Area Block 22 when they intercepted him near Shafiq Morr.
During interrogation, Manzur revealed that he had killed his daughter, said SHO Naeem Khan, adding that the police also found the murder weapon, a knife.
According to the accused, his wife — a garment factory worker — wanted to get their daughter married to her male colleague, Asif. “My wife forcibly held the nikah against mine and my daughter’s wishes,” he claimed. “Asif has a poor reputation so I did not want my daughter to marry him. I was helpless and could not do anything about them so I decided to kill my own daughter.”
